Buttercross Needleworkers was formed in March 2000 with just 5 interested women.  We decided to embrace all needlework skills but to major in patchwork & quilting.  We have grown in the 5 years to over 30 members, who come from as far afield as Mexborough, Rotherham & all parts of Doncaster.

Many of our members had not done any sewing before joining us.  Some members are currently producing a sampler quilt made up of different blocks.  Each  'block of the month'  has been chosen to demonstrate several techniques and it is amazing how different the results look.  Later on these blocks will be sashed to form the top of the quilt, which will ultimately be layered with wadding and the back.  These layers are quilted together and finally binding is applied to neaten the edges.  Those who do not wish to make the sampler quilt can make as many or as few blocks as they want.  Some make them into cushions or keep them as a record in their file.  Those who are not participating in the 'block of the month' bring along their own project - patchwork, cross-stitch, embroidery, felt work etc.

Our greatest achievement to date was the making of a beautiful quilt, which we raffled in aid of the Tickhill Scout Group - £1360 was raised!

Occasionally we meet informally in someone’s home from 1.30 to 4.30 (come and go as you wish during this time).  This is an opportunity to just chat, or to plan new projects, or to hone your basic skills.

Visitors are very welcome at all of our meetings - either just to meet us all or to attend a particular speaker meeting.
