WE ARE A GROUP OF CURRENTLY TWELVE MEMBERS
WHO HAVE A SHARED INTEREST IN OUR LOCAL ENVIROMENT. DURING
THE WINTER MONTHS WE SPEND A LOT OF TIME PLANTING TREES
AND SOMETIMES HEDGES IN THE SURROUNDING COUNTRYSIDE WITH
THE CO-OPERATION OF THE LOCAL LANDOWNERS. RECENTLY WE BOUGHT
FOUR ACRES OF LAND AT THE END OF WATER LANE AND WITH THE
HELP OF THE SCOUTS AND LOCAL PEOPLE WE CREATED TICKHILLS
FIRST PUBLIC WOOD, WHICH WE CALLED JUBILEE WOOD.WE GROW
MOST OF OUR OWN TREES AND HAVE A TREE NURSERY AT STONEY
BRIGG FARM. DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS WE ENJOY OUTINGS TO
NATURE RESERVES AND VISITS TO SUCH PLACES AS HATFIELD MOORS
WHICH ARE NOT YET OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
We have ties with the local schools who plant seeds and
grow them for us as part of a school project. We are very
keen to involve the young and encourage them at every opportunity.
The scouts have worked with us on projects such as Jubilee
wood and Owl boxes and both parties have benefited and had
a lot of fun. Over the years we have built up a good relationship
with the local farmers, who in turn have not only let us
plant on their land, but have also helped out too. We have
found that as the environment has become a more mainstream
issue we are being contacted and encouraged by all areas
of society and even local government.
To summarise we aim to improve Tickhill’s countryside
and try and have a bit of fun doing it and there’s
no doubt it’s certainly rewarding.
