This innovative, community life
sabing project provides Tickhill with an additional emergency
resource provided by volunteers. The Volunteers provide
immediate care to members of their local communities who
are showing signs of heart attack or have suffered a collapse
or are having difficulty brteathing prior to the arrival
of an ambulance. The scheme has been in Tickhill since 10th
March 2003 with new volunteers joining all the time.
Volunteers receive specialist traing in resusitation and
the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), which
is used to deliver a controlled electric shock to the heart
as well as other skills to enable volunteers to deal with
incidents with confidence.
Volunteers work on a rota-system giving as much aor as little
time as they feel able, ranging from 2 to more than 20 hours
a week. They are provided with an AED and a mobile telephone
to ensure the South Yorkshire Ambulance Service Communications
Centre can remain in communication with them. They administer
treatment at the scene until an ambulance crew arrives.
The service is put in to action once a 999 emergency call
has been received and an ambulance has been despatched.
The project was the result of a partnership with Tickhill
and Stainton Lions who provided the AED.
Tickhill Community First Responders are always on the look
out for new volunteers to be part of our exciting project.
Your help is needed to get involved, learn new skills and
become part of a team that saves lives within yor community.
We are looking for people who are good under pressure and
can remain calm and caring when dealing with a patient.
Volunteers range from aged 18 to 70 and come from all different
backgrounds. They all receive extensive training and support
from South Yorkshire Ambulance Service to enable them to
become the vital emergency care link for members of thier
local community.
Anyone interested must be over the age of 18 with an interest
in first aid and access to a car. The only other criteria
are that volunteers must be physically fit and prepared
to undertake training.
